Detailed engraving from the Mannerist or Baroque period depicting the Archangel Saint Michael in triumph over Lucifer. The imposing central angelic figure is depicted with large wings spread, wearing ornate Roman armor and a dynamic, flowing robe, while holding a palm branch in one hand and raising his right arm toward a shield of celestial light bearing the Latin inscription “QUIS UT DEUS” (Who is like God). Above his head crowned by a halo, a semicircle of small winged cherubs floats among resplendent clouds. At the base of the image, Saint Michael steps firmly on the scaly, serpentine tail of the fallen creature, whose human torso and demonic wings appear subdued and in a defeated position in the lower right corner, all executed with meticulous hatching that creates a strong effect of volume, texture and drama.
