A leap in time in relation to previous Renaissance engravings, presenting a stylized and three-dimensional reinterpretation of the Coat of Arms of the Empire of Brazil, the country’s official symbol during the 19th century (1822–1889). In the center of the composition, on the shield, stands out the emblematic golden Armillary Sphere sitting on the Cross of the Order of Christ, a direct inheritance of the Portuguese maritime and colonial tradition, surrounded by a blue border studded with stars that represented the imperial provinces. Majestically crowning the ensemble is the Imperial Crown of Brazil, adorned with pearls and precious stones, while the sides are embraced by traditional branches of fruited coffee and flowered tobacco — the pillars of the country’s agricultural economy and wealth at the time —, perfectly tied at the base by a bow, consolidating a heraldry that united the heir identity of Europe with the flowering of the new American sovereignty under the Bragança dynasty.
