Famous and detailed Renaissance engraving depicting the Archangel Saint Michael defeating the dragon, created by the German master Martin Schongauer in the 15th century, identified by its characteristic monogram (“MS”) centered on the lower edge. The composition shows the imposing angelic figure in the center, with large open wings and detailed feathers, wearing long tunics with well-defined angular folds that give volume and dynamism to the scene. Saint Michael firmly wields a long spear with both hands, thrusting it directly into the open mouth of the monster subdued at his feet. The dragon is represented as a fantastic and grotesque creature, with a serpentine tail that twists to the right, sharp claws and a toothed mouth full of thorny textures, all masterfully constructed through fine and precise hatching characteristic of metal engraving of the period.
